Key phases in a software escrow setup

Account setup
Create your account
Invite your team members
Configure your escrow settings
Quick tip: Preparation is the fastest way through setup
Before starting the account setup process, ensure you have:
Your organization details (company name, address, registration information)
Contact information for internal team members who need platform access
The other party's organization and contact details for their invitations
Names of authorized representatives from your organization
Your technical preferences (storage region, notification settings)
Confirmation of whether you're the depositor or beneficiary
Note: If you're working toward a deadline, don’t delay setup. Legal reviews between parties can take longer than expected — especially when multiple teams get involved. The sooner we start, the faster we can guide you through.
How to set up your software escrow account
Create your account
After signing up, you'll receive an email with setup details. From there, create your Codekeeper account and input your organization’s legal and administrative information.
Note: The Codekeeper platform shows you exactly what to do at each step — just follow the on-screen instructions.
Action checklist:
Watch for your Codekeeper onboarding email
Add your team members
Send invites to all parties that’ll be involved in the escrow process. This typically includes legal, compliance, and technical stakeholders who’ll participate in different phases of the setup.
Action checklist:
Select your role and escrow type
Define whether you're acting as the depositor (vendor) or beneficiary (client), and select your agreement structure: bipartite (two-party) or tripartite (three-party).
Action checklist:
Confirm your role in the agreement
Provide party information and member management
Input your organization’s official contacts and authorized signatories. If it’s a bipartite agreement, you’ll also need the other party's information on hand. If it’s tripartite, we’ll invite the other party to fill in their own.
Action checklist:
Provide your party’s full details and contacts
Gather and input the other party’s contact info (if applicable)

Set up technical configurations
Define how your escrow will function. This includes storage location, display permissions, notification preferences, and version history access.
Action checklist:
Align with your counterparty (if tripartite)
Hand off to legal team
Once setup is complete, the process moves to agreement configuration. Your legal team will handle this next phase, working directly with Codekeeper's in-house counsel.

Notify legal team that setup is complete
